FOCUS INTERVENTION

Pre-training Discussions

7th June 2024

As a preparation for our next Fundamental Safety Riding Training with JKSB (Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd), USM and Boon Siew Honda Safety Riding Teams sat down a few days before to discuss and review our commitments to our company clients. We reviewed and agreed on our roles and responsibilities on the training day and the good things we did or added on from the last training session. So that our training delivery becomes smoother and more effective. That is always important to us in achieving our project goals. For this training, we decided to continue with the new blindspot activity we developed and tested from the previous training. That would be the improvement to the content of Fundamentals Safety Riding Training. Our training is a living training. It also ensures that each member knows who is in charge of what so that no job is unattended for smoother delivery. We are ready for JKSB!

Additional Information

The proposed training and teaching module aims to enhance the professionalism and competence of driving school instructors, in line with efforts to reduce the high rate of motorcycle accidents in Malaysia. The module emphasizes three main pillars: psychomotor skills, interaction skills, and safety accountability. In terms of psychomotor, instructors are exposed to motorcycle technology and safe riding techniques such as braking, cornering, balancing, and accident avoidance. From the interaction perspective, the module focuses on the ability to assess road risks, manage interactions with other road users, utilize digital technologies such as Google Maps/Waze, and handle scenarios involving traffic congestion, adverse weather, nighttime riding, and hilly terrain. As for the affective aspect, it fosters accountability and instructor ethics, encourages self-initiated safety riding, and evaluates the impact of accidents on individuals, families, society, and the nation. The implementation strategy combines theoretical approaches (interactive lectures, accident videos, digital quizzes), practical training (circuit exercises and simulations), and value development (reflection, role-play, and group discussions). Although there are financial implications such as the cost of module development, provision of practical equipment, and technological support, the benefits are highly significant, namely producing more competent, ethical, and professional instructors who contribute to reducing road accidents nationwide. Therefore, this module should be approved and integrated as part of the official training program for driving school instructors, with continuous monitoring and evaluation.
