This project is a USM project with the aim to provide safer commuting environment for motorcycles.
WHY MOTORCYLISTS?
This is because motorcycle users constitute 61% of fatalities on the road nationally. As for Penang, the rate is higher at 81% and Penang is the number three in the country, the first one is Johor.
After years of working with PERKESO as a trainer, Prof Madya Dr. Lilis Surienty binti Abd Talib had proposed this project. One of the main concerns that PERKESO always raise and still have is that the compensation is almost going over their total contributions.
In response to this, they put monies/funds for prevention initiatives and programmes. These programmes and initiatives are to encourage more awareness towards commuting accidents in workplaces.
PERKESO play the role of an agency that provides social security for the workers, lead the initiatives promoting safety at workplaces and provide trainings in support to employers in managing commuting accidents.
In exchange, employers are expected to give their commitment in providing safer workplaces for their workers. However, with regard to commuting accident, employers keeps on offering awareness programmes to address commuting accident among workers.
Despite of the initiatives put in by PERKESO as well as the employees, the compensation contribution keeps on expanding ad this chart on compensation includes the amount made for all types of injury, industrial and also commuting.
